The Catalan Society of Biology (SCB) delivered yesterday evening, within its fourth Biology Night, the society's awards at the CosmoCaixa Barcelona. In this edition, Dr. Anna Veiga Lluch, director of Stem cell bank of the Center of Regenerative Medicine in Barcelona and R+D director of the Reproductive Medicine Service of the Dexeus University Institute, has been awarded the Leandro Cervera SCB Career Award.

Among many other milestones in her professional career, Dr. Veiga was a member of the pioneering team that made possible the birth of the first baby by in vitro fertilization in Spain in 1984. During the Night, Dr. Veiga offered an overview of her career linked to the great advances in science and technology that have appeared in her field.

In addition to the Leandro Cervera award, prizes were distributed in four other categories: SCB Scientific Article Award (Rubén Cereijo Téllez), SCB Disclosure Prize (Antoni Pou Pujadas), SCB Young Researcher Award (Rubén Cereijo Téllez) and SCB Prize for High School Research Work (Catherine Iglesias Petrushichev).

The Biology Night is an event organized by the SCB (first branch of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans), to celebrate the advances made during the current year by professionals and students of the biological sciences of the Catalan-speaking territory. In its fourth edition, the Night has become a meeting place for the scientific community, friends and the general public.
